Regional training days at the RSM: 2020/21 programme

Dear all

The dates have been set for the 2020/21 LSP regional training days, hosted at the Royal Society of Medicine.  We are hopeful that COVID-19 will allow these events will go ahead, but we are working in uncertain times so will keep everyone updated if there need to be changes.  We are aiming to keep the online sessions going in parallel to the training days rather than replacing them.

Traditionally pitched at level 2 trainees, but open to everyone, the regional training days help to update your knowledge of important topics and meet key curriculum competencies that can be difficult to achieve in the workplace.  They are also a great way to catch up with colleagues.

The events are organised and hosted by trainee volunteers with an interest in that subspecialty (Grid or SPIN, or aspiring towards either of these), supported by the three Curriculum Delivery TPDs:  Jane Runnacles, Caroline Scott-Lang and Matko Marlais.  Organizers have previously found this to be a rewarding experience and it is great for networking as well as a fantastic addition to your CV.  If you would like to be involved in organising an RSM study day, please contact the relevant TPD – please note that some topics get a lot of volunteers and you may not be able to help with this cycle, but we can bear you in mind for future events or online learning.

The dates are:

Wednesday 28th October 2020 – Paediatric Emergency Medicine  Matko

Wednesday 25th November 2020 – Respiratory and ENT Caroline

Tuesday 8th December 2020 – Community Paediatrics Caroline

Thursday 7th January 2021 – Neurology Jane

We would be grateful if trust reps and rota coordinators could work together locally to maximise attendance.  We appreciate that there have been some clashes with school holidays but we have limited choice of available sessions.

The RSM will open up booking for these events as soon as possible.  Advance booking via the website is strongly recommended.  Please be aware that space is limited and while on the day registration is typically available, catering is only provided for those who have pre-registered and for popular events entry cannot be guaranteed.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Caroline on
