What is the START preparation course?

The START preparation course is a free evening course for any paediatric junior doctors preparing for the START (Specialty Trainee Assessment of Readiness for Tenure) assessment. The START  assessment is designed to assess your abilities relating to clinical decision-making as a new consultant. There is more information about START on the RCPCH website here.

This aims to demystify the assessment process and practicalities.

When is the START preparation course held?

The evening course runs twice a year, in the run up to each exam sitting. Courses will be advertised on the LSP website.

This runs virtually, as a Q&A session. Previous sessions recordings are available to watch on the LSP YouTube channel

This year there is an extra START diet in July 2024, we are therefore hosting a START peer support evening on 6th June 2024 18:30-19.30

Sign up on medtribe: https://medtribe.com/courses/lsp-start-preparation-peer-support-evening?utm_medium=copy-link&utm_source=share-modal

There will be a talk to prepare you for the START assessment and a panel Q+A featuring trainees who have recently sat START. This will be on MS Teams – a link will be sent on the day.

You can email questions in advance to imelda.gerry@nhs.net, or ask them on the day.

The session will be recorded for the LSP Youtube page.

Other resources

We also have a START padlet board, with resources for the different stations which you can join here…https://padlet.com/lsopeducationsubgroup/lsp-start-padlet-u2nrayubrtveba0i

This has replaced the old trello board. If you have any resources that you find useful, please share them to the Padlet.

We also have an LSP WhatsApp group for people to share resources and find people to practice with.

If you have would like access to the WhatsApp group, or have any questions, contact imelda.gerry@nhs.net
