UCL run different courses on statistics - no prior statistical knowledge is assumed for the introductory course (Introduction to Research Methods and Statistics), or their summer schools, but all other courses assume that the basics are understood. Courses usually take place weekdays between 10.00am and 4.30pm. Selected evening courses that run between 5.30pm and 8.15pm are often available.


You can also undertake an MSc at UCL. They offer five pathways in Paediatrics and Child Health, each of which can be taken as an MSc, PG Dip or PG Cert.


The Advanced Paediatrics MSc course at King’s College London is a multidisciplinary master’s degree designed for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals. This advanced study course concentrates on expanding your research and evidence-based evaluation skills in clinical practice and leadership, as well as enhancing your career opportunities in research and academia.


Imperial run a series of courses in line with the level 3 RCPCH curriculum. There are many on offer including one on science and evidence in paediatric practice.


Imperial also run a Researcher Development Course. This is a short course and it is not designed to cover everything. It provides an excellent grounding prior to undertaking a Masters or equivalent. It is also suitable for clinicians who want to improve their understanding of research. Some of the critical underpinning skills required for performing high quality research have been selected to get you started.  Other knowledge, such as research methodology, is not covered in any detail, primarily because this can be learnt from text books and requires less guidance from a tutor. Equally issues such as recruitment, data collection, management and analysis are all better tackled when you are ready to undertake them. The course is offered in two 2 day modules. The gap between the modules is intended to allow you time to use and develop the skills taught during days 1 and 2, and to spend time developing a research question and start to formulate a proposal.
