Simulation Programme 2023

London School of Paediatrics Simulation Programme 2023

We are delighted to announce our new plans for our 2023 programme.  The programme now will be undertaken where possible at the majority of the district general hospitals.  Your local centres will be running these so you can gain experience in team training within your own teams.  Please book into your local centres in your region/contact your link as per the table below if you can.  If your centres are all full or you need other dates, you can book into other centres across London.

Any queries, please contact your sector simulation TPD as below.  Please note that some centres have a different format of the days to accommodate their local faculty (eg combining full immersion with skills and separate communication day). Please refer to table below.

  1. Full Immersion Days

These are full days for Level 1 (ST1-3) Paediatric trainees, nursing staff and allied health professionals.  They are for small groups and you will have the opportunity to take part in and observe five Full Immersion scenarios.  The faculty will support you through the scenarios and the debriefs will focus on a combination of clinical management and human factors.  The environment is psychologically safe and we will have both expert faculty and faculty who are candidates on the LSP Paediatric Simulation Faculty Development Programme.

2. Part-Task - procedural skills/Communication Days

These are for Level 1  (ST1-3) Paediatric trainees. We recommend all ST3 trainees to sign-up in preparation for stepping up into middle grade roles and you will get priority in booking into this course.

2a. Part-Task: This session gives you the opportunity to become more familiar with and practice practical skills that are used in paediatric emergencies.  These are: Basic and Advanced Airway management (Bag-valve mask ventilation, safe intubation), Tracheostomy management, Intra-osseous needle placement, Chest drain placement.

2b. Communication: During the communication session, all trainees will have the opportunity to take part leading a challenging conversation with an actor role playing a parent.  Everyone will take part in the discussion following the conversation and you will learn about specifics for these scenarios.

Once again, the environment is psychologically safe and we will have expert faculty.
