Q: Are rotations going ahead as planned in September 2020?
A: At present, September placements are happening as planned so far but there m<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>ay be late stage changes by HEE depending on pandemic measures. </span>
<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Training allocations (i.e post numbers in each hospital) may change. For example, if the Brompton isn’t doing cardiac surgery, posts may change and this may be late on as there is no point </span>training where there aren’t any patients.
Q: Will trainees who are currently on community placements but have been called back to acute hospital paediatrics because of coronavirus be required to repeat their community placements?
A: Completing a c<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>ommunity placement is not mandatory for progression – you just need to ensure that you achieve the required competencies (eg safeguarding/development) elsewhere. It is not </span>expected that everyone missing community now will have to resit community later. <span style=”font-weight: 400;”>If a trainee is expecting to start GRID this September but have had community postponed, they should start GRID as planned provided all competencies met. </span>
Q: If a trainee was in a speciality placement (such as Respiratory) but got redeployed or had to work from home due to Coronavirus, will they have an opportunity to re-do this placement?
A: No, trainees will not automatically have an opportunity to re-do this placement, however if there is a subspeciality a trainee is especially keen to gain experience in they should speak to their programme management TPD early to see if they can be placed in a suitable post.
