Welcome to the final NCEL Blog of 2018

Which TPD approves study leave for aspirational courses? There isn’t a specific TPD. All TPDs are able to approve and copy in Head of School who can approve via email.

March rotation queries: All trusts will be informed of which trainees are coming in March 2019 on 12th December 2018 so Trusts are able to plan rotas. HEE does inform Trusts of level of trainee coming to them so as college tutors, if you haven’t been informed, go back to your HR departments.

How to engage Trust grade doctors in your department? Most departments provide the same training for trainees & non-trainees. The price of Kaizen has increased which has had a significant impact for Trust doctors to have online portfolios. MTI initiative provides Kaizen access as a part of the MTI programme. Departments may need to be more imaginative to attract doctors to Trust posts. Also departments should engage with Trust DME team as all doctors will need to participate in appraisal if they work outside the HEE training programme. Allocating educational supervisors who have experienced life as a Trust doctor can provide invaluable support for Trust doctors as well as insightful advice from the educational supervisors. The IT subgroup will coordinating information for non-training grade doctors who are interested in progressing to training on the website.

Website: Priyen & James updated the group on updating the LSP website. Today they have been taking short videos of sound bites from trainees to highlight “why train in LSP” or highlighting the information available on the new website. The new website will be formally launched at the LSP conference in February. There will be a new section for resources for educational supervisors. If you have any suggestions for the LSP website update, please get in touch with James (james.diviney@nhs.net) or Priyen(priyenshah@nhs.net).

STARR subgroup are running educational training days for educational supervisors as well as incorporating a parallel programme at the School Conference for educational supervisors. The STARR subgroup are also planning a Surviving & thriving day next year and the School Conference as well as lead the March STC meeting.
