Trauma-Informed Safeguarding of Children and Young People

Have you ever wanted to know how to support young people who are disclosing sexual abuse? Do you feel concerned in how well you are able to support exploited young people? Do you want to be more skilled at the holistic care of Children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse? Do you feel you have adequate training in delivering a trauma informed approach in complex safeguarding? Do you feel the complexity of your patient care getting more and more? If yes to any of these questions, this might be the day course for you. Delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary faculty from the Lighthouse (UCLH Child House) and Sunrise (Barts and the London Child Sexual Abuse hub), this course uses a combination of case examples, lectures and reflection to build delegate confidence on how to manage safeguarding complexity and risk.
Topics include (not exhaustive):
- Understand child sexual and criminal exploitation, sexually harmful behaviour and impact of pornography
- Holistic health assessment of CYP who have experienced sexual abuse and impact of unmet health needs and somatic symptoms.
- How to be trauma informed when you see/manage or advocate for CYP who have experienced harm or are at risk.
This course is aimed at professionals who work directly with vulnerable children and young people. Suitable for paediatric/CAMHS/ED/O&G/GP trainees/clinical fellows and consultants and nursing and allied health professionals alike.
