What is this course?

Transition to Leadership is a free 2-day course organised by the London School of Paediatrics to help prepare trainees for the transition from tier 1 to tier 2. Topics covered include:

  • Life as a new SpR
  • Leading at night
  • Child protection
  • Consent
  • When a child dies
  • Delegation and conflict resolution
  • Complaints and serious incidents

Participants are expected at both days. As part of the course, you will also have access to a wealth of excellent online resources from other registrars who have recently gone through the transition process.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for London deanery paediatric trainees who will be in a London deanery ST3b/ST4 post in March 2026 or September 2026, or who have stepped up in September 2025 and not previously attended this course.

If this does not apply to you, please apply via the waiting list on Medtribe. We will contact those on the waiting list prior if there is sufficient space on the course.

If you are unsure what type of ticket to apply for please email t2l@doctors.org.uk

Can I help facilitate on this course?

Yes!  The course is entirely peer-led by registrars. If you are ST4+ and would like to pass on your wisdom through a short talk (several themes available) or facilitating small group discussions on either or both days, please email us at t2l@doctors.org.uk

You are eligible to take study leave and will be given a certificate for designing (speaker role) or supporting (facilitator role) this regional teaching course.
