START Preparation Course November 2024

What is the START preparation course?

The START preparation course is a free evening course for any paediatric junior doctors preparing for the START (Specialty Trainee Assessment of Readiness for Tenure) assessment. The START  assessment is designed to assess your abilities relating to clinical decision-making as a new consultant. There is more information about START on the RCPCH website here.

This aims to demystify the assessment process and practicalities.

When is the START preparation course held?

The evening course runs twice or three times a year, in the run up to each exam sitting. Courses will be advertised on the LSP website.
This runs virtually, as a Q&A session. Previous sessions recordings are available to watch on the LSP YouTube channel.
The next START assessments will be held in December 2024 and so the next START preparation course will be on 12th November 2024 at 6.30pm-8pm.

There will be a talk to prepare you for the START assessment and a panel Q+A featuring trainees who have recently sat START. This will be on MS Teams – a link will be sent on the day.
You can email questions in advance to imelda.gerry@nhs.net, or ask them on the day.
The session will be recorded for the LSP Youtube page.
