COURSE INFO:

 

This new Haven Paediatric course has been developed for healthcare and other professionals, who work in or with services for children and young people who have or may have experienced child sexual abuse.

 

This new two-day course is designed for:

 

Multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals working with CYP who have been sexually abused or where sexual abuse is suspected, seeking to develop knowledge, skills and confidence around the holistic management of those CYP and families.  This will include those working within Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and Child Sexual Abuse / Exploitation (CSA / CSE).

Delegates might include individuals working within:

– Community paediatrics
– General or specialist paediatrics / adolescent services
– Designated / named professionals for safeguarding
– Senior children’s services management
– CAMHS

 

Course objectives:

By the end of the course, delegates will have an understanding of:

  • pathways and processes involved after an allegation of child sexual abuse
  • true multiagency working (ie police, courts, social care), with a trauma-informed approach
  • knowledge upon which to base triage and management decisions for complex cases relating to child sexual abuse
  • the holistic care of children and young people: both therapeutic, (medical, psychological, advocacy), forensic and aftercare
  • the importance of vicarious trauma and self-care
