A recent article in ADC showed that very few paediatric trainees have ever received formal training in managing unexpected deaths in children, and many felt symptoms of PTSD as a result. We have developed a course on ‘Managing Unexpected Deaths in Children’ which covers talks by a General Paediatrician, Police, Pathologist, Coroner and a Paediatric Intensivist covering all the practical aspects of managing an unexpected death. The day also consists of communication simulation with a professional actor, covering difficult conversations. The course has been held twice at the Evelina with great feedback and I have arranged another date to be held on Wednesday 27th February 2019 at Kingston Hospital. Any trainees welcome. Nurses also very welcome. Please spread the word – here is the booking link.
