Leadership skills are essential for paediatricians to maximize productivity in the clinical setting, as well as drive systems improvement and innovation. Trainees at all levels must develop these attributes and understand the nature of organisational change in the NHS, in order to best serve our patients.
Dr Clare Lemer is a consultant paediatrician and Associate National Clinical Director for Children and Young People for NHS England. She has extensive experience in public health, health policy, operations management and quality improvement. She has worked on the development of clinical leadership programmes and co-authored two books on medical management.
