Get involved with a new Paediatric Dermatology Training Opportunity

The Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) report on paediatric dermatology (2021) highlighted significant workforce shortages and considerable variation and inequality in access to specialist care for children and young people with skin disorders.

In response, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) has been working closely with the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology (BSPAD) and the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) to address these challenges and improve service provision.

It has been recognised that enhancing dermatology training for paediatricians will enable a greater number of skin conditions to be managed within paediatric services, including improved diagnosis and treatment.

The RCPCH currently offers a SPIN module in Dermatology, which is open to general paediatricians with an interest in developing expertise in this area.

In addition, a new pilot training programme will be launched in 2026, modelled on the GRID framework. It will not be officially recognised as GRID training as yet. This post will include two years of training in Paediatric Dermatology at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and one year in Adult Dermatology at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The successful candidate will gain a unique and comprehensive experience in paediatric dermatology, under the supervision of experienced paediatric dermatologists.
